ASEAN’s guidance on the feature proclamation of cosmetic products in cosmetic claims

Cosmetic announcement is one of the important steps before bringing cosmetic products to market to ensure quality and legality. According to ASEAN guidelines, the decision of whether a product is a cosmetic or not depends on many factors of which the most important is product features. So what factors should cosmetic products ensure? What features are not accepted in the cosmetic product? Let’s find out through the article below.

A simple 5-step process guide for determining product and feature claims is suitable for a cosmetic product. The guide also gives some examples of feature claims that are not acceptable for cosmetics. However, this list is not considered an exhaustive list, the final decision is still made by the regulator.
The process of deciding whether the product is a cosmetic and announcing the allowed cosmetic product’s feature must satisfy the following factors:
1. Main uses: Products are used for the sole purpose of either cleansing, aromatic or correcting body odor or protecting, keeping them in good condition.
2. The form of the product is to be shown as to prevent and cure diseases of humans.
3. The physiological effects of the product: All products that affect the function of the body have an effect on metabolism. The property of cosmetics is to have permanent effects / effects and must be used frequently to maintain effectiveness.
4. Product Structure: The product contains ingredients that are authorized by the ASEAN Cosmetic Treaty and no ingredients are prohibited.
5. Location of use: The product comes in contact with the external parts of the body (epidermis, hair system, nails, lips, external genitals) or with teeth and mucous membranes of the oral cavity.
